George Washington’s Birthday Party

February 26 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This popular children's event is geared toward ages 4 and up. Children will use their artistic talents, play games and have fun in a series of activity stations. A story about George Washington will help children to understand why we continue to celebrate his birthday. During the special visit from "George Washington," children will sing "Happy Birthday!" and enjoy cake and ice cream. Pretzels and beverages will also be served. Lecture Series: Lancaster County Architecture – The First 100 Years (1710 – 1810)

Gregory J. Scott will explore the three most prevalent architectural styles of the time: Germanic, Traditional English and Georgian including Lancaster City and the surrounding countryside.   This event will be held in the Rock Ford Barn. Lecture Series: Major Thomas Boude, Revolutionary War Hero, Associate of General Edward Hand, and The Origins of the Underground Railroad in Lancaster County and the U.S.

Harris will present a lecture on Major Thomas Boude (1752-1822), a war hero and national political figure, who thwarted the attempted kidnapping of a formerly enslaved woman at his home in 1804. A spontaneous, community-supported uprising against the institution of slavery, this flashpoint in Columbia - a community central to the African American experience – has been recognized as “the incorporation” of the movement that some three decades later became known as the Underground Railroad. May Fair Celebration

Celebrate the arrival of Spring at Rock Ford’s annual May Fair Celebration with a variety of craftsmen and vendors, 18th century entertainments, and dancing around the Maypole! All outdoor activities are free and open to the public and also weather permitting. Guided tours of the mansion will be on every half hour from 10 am until 3 pm. A Rock Ford docent in period costume will read a story to children gathered on the porch of the mansion. Following the story, children will participate in a themed craft and other fun activities. A light snack and beverage will be served. Children must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult. The suggested age range for Stories on the Porch is 3-7 years, but all are welcome. There is a suggested donation of $1 per child for this event.

Yuletide Candlelight Tours

Step back in time to when Christmas Day was only the beginning of the season! Learn about 18th-century Yuletide traditions and customs. Beautiful music will fill the air, and dancing will take place in the first floor hallway. Bring your friends, family, and guests to celebrate the season during this popular annual event! $10 adults, $8 seniors (65+) and children 6-12, and free for children 5 and under. No reservations required. Admission is payable at the door.
